Yupeng Zhang

I am a Ph.D. student in Computer Science at The University of Sydney, based in the Biomedical Data Analysis and Visualisation (BDAV) Lab since 2024, and a part-time Data Research Analyst at Royal North Shore Hospital, Northern Sydney Local Health District. My research focuses on multimodal medical image analysis in vision–language models for clinical decision support.

Previously, I worked as a research intern at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research from 2023 to 2024, optimising the single-cell RNA-seq tool CellRegMap for eQTL mapping. I also built a real-time video analysis system for eating-behaviour biofeedback in children with cerebral palsy for my undergraduate honours thesis.

Broadly, I work as an AI/ML engineer and researcher across medical AI, vision–language models, and genomics. I build reproducible training and evaluation pipelines in PyTorch on multi-GPU HPC, profile and redesign ML models and pipelines for healthcare application and deployment efficiency, and care about making models both robust and fair. I enjoy translating complex analyses into actionable insights for clinicians and researchers.
